USPS Specs

USPS regulations specify the location of mailboxes. The front of your Mail Boss should be set back from the edge of the road or curb by 6-8 inches. The incoming mail slot of your Mail Boss must be 41-45” above the road surface. (By contrast, with unlocked mailboxes, the bottom of the mailbox must be 41-45” above the road surface.) Official USPS mailbox guidelines can be found here.

With a typical installation of the Mail Boss on an In-Ground Post, burying the post 12” in the ground will place the incoming mail slot within USPS specs. With a typical installation of the Mail Boss on a Surface Mount Post, installing the surface mount on a curb or sidewalk 4-8” above the road surface will place the incoming mail slot within USPS specs.
