Mail Boss Upgrades Locks

Big news here.

We are phasing in NEW locks!

We came to this decision after years of using a 7-pin tube lock:

After  extensive product research and consumer feedback, we have determined that from hereon, all Mail Boss mailboxes manufactured will incorporate a new 12-Wafer Disc Lock:

Why the change?

More Secure

  • Thousands more potential combinations
  • More difficult to pick
  • Hardened steel layers – more difficult to drill out

Ease of Use

  • No pressure required to turn key
  • Smaller surface area decreases likelihood of debris penetrating locking mechanism

As with any locking mechanism, we still recommend periodic maintenance with Tri-Flow as a preventative measure to keep your lock operating smoothly. However, we are hopeful that the new 12-wafer disc locks will offer our customers a superior locking mechanism with years of trouble-free operation.

One caveat:

The new locks will still include 3 keys. However, they will be more expensive to replace. You can buy replacement keys Replacement Flat Key, but they will cost about $15 each, as the labor for laser cutting these keys individually is significant.

Please be patient with us as we sell through existing inventory and update our product descriptions online to reflect the change.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact us at we will respond ASAP!

Hi, If this is a wafer tumbler lock, then the *key* may be more difficult to duplicate, and that is a good thing. Whether the wafer disc mechanism offers any or much protection is quite another matter. The nuclear regulatory agencies years and years ago used some wafer systems, and the key was extremely hard to duplicate ( brand back then was “Duo” but not the famous Illiinois Duo lock of far more recent times. Good for you in trying to restrict duplication of people’s keys- you might try making a brand-less, neutral bow key for a bit more $ . That will at lease foil ‘untrained’ people’s duplicating the key, but likely not much difference to those using computerized keyblank ID. Please do not publish my email/website

We have been having a lot of mail being stolen from our mailbox. We installed your mailbox with the steel sleeve post. The thieves have now attempted to drill the 12 wafer disc lock. They got as far as the first disc and quit. I think I should replace the lock as they now have drilled out the front of the lock.

Please contact me to tell me how much it is going to cost me for a new lock and keys,

ok one more, is there a way i can prevent a thief from stilling my box. with the breakaway law. what is stopping the thief from just using a car to bump my box, and stilling the whole thing. seams like the thief has more protection, than us folks. need to change the laws some where.
if some one hits are box, and get hurt, we can be sude. and if he hits a person in the same place. he can go up for man slatter. what is wrong with this picture.
